Anheuser Busch
ab-logo

Anheuser-Busch traces its origins back to the Bavarian brewery, which was established in 1852. Eberhard Anheuser acquired the Bavarian brewery in 1860 and renamed it E. Anheuser & Co. In 1864, his son-in-law, Adolphus Busch, joined the company that would later become Anheuser-Busch.

While the company's early years were demanding, Adolphus Busch proved to be up to the challenge. His keen vision, bold initiative, marketing savvy and passionate commitment to quality were his legacy to those who followed, and the high standards he established have been adhered to by each succeeding generation.

Today, Anheuser-Busch produces the two best-selling beers in the world, Budweiser and Bud Light; operates 12 breweries in the United States; and has operations around the globe.

Interesting Facts:  Budweiser was introduced in 1876 when company founder Adolphus Busch set out to create the United States’ first truly national beer brand - brewed to be universally popular and transcend regional tastes.

Each batch of Budweiser follows the same family recipe used by five generations of Busch family brewmasters.

Samples of Budweiser are flown into St. Louis everyday from each of A-B’s 12 regional breweries. There, in a special tasting room, the beer is sampled and judged by our brewmasters to ensure its quality and consistency.

Pour the brew down the side of the glass until about one-half inch of brew is left in the bottle. Lay the bottle on its side and roll it gently back and forth, mixing the remaining yeast that has settled at the bottom. Pour the rest of the brew, producing a nice, thick collar oF foam.

Introduced/Availability:  1778 in Manchester, England; available nationwide

Beer Category/Style:  High-End import — English pub ale

Taste Profile:  Renowned for its golden color, distinctive creamy head, smooth body and easy drinking character, Boddingtons is a medium-bodied pale ale. It has a creamy, malty and slightly sweet flavor and features a clean, pleasant aftertaste.

Ingredients/Brewing:  Boddingtons uses a traditional brewing process and is 4.6 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

Interesting Facts:  On the corner of Great Ducie Street and New Bridge Street in Strangeways, Manchester, is where two grain merchants, Thomas Caister and Thomas Fry, founded the Strangeways Brewery in 1778. Henry Boddington joined the business in 1832 as a traveler (the local vernacular for repairman) and rose to become a partner. Henry Boddington became the sole owner in 1853. The company was renamed Boddingtons Breweries in 1886 following Henry’s death.

In 1992, Boddingtons introduced the widget can and was one of the first beers to use this technology. When Boddingtons is canned, the combination of the carbon dioxide and nitrogen needed to create the head of the beer is less than ideal. The Draught Flow System inside of the widget can consists of a plastic, nitrogen-filled ball or widget that helps the carbon dioxide already dissolved in the beer form additional tiny bubbles. This keeps the head stable and makes the beer as close to a draught brew as possible.

Boddingtons is imported and distributed in the United States by Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
