Chateau Diana Winery
Chateau Diana Logo

Chateau Diana was founded more than 25 years ago by Tom and Diane Manning. The Manning’s came to California from New York with a dream of starting their own family winery.

Today, the Chateau Diana family is made up of unique individuals with very different strengths who work together as a whole. We are composed of self-driven, self sufficient, hard-working and generous people who are focused on the promise of Chateau Diana.

“Everyone on our team has something to offer and no single person or idea
dominates our growth. We grow more as a group than we could alone.”

Corey Manning
President
Chateau Diana Winery

Our Sonoma County winery rests along Dry Creek Road amidst one of the premier growing regions of California - the Dry Creek Valley.

Much of the appeal of this picturesque valley has long been the synthesis between soil and the temperance of nature, that provides the most perfect ripening conditions. Simply, the grapes thrive here.

Chateau Diana is the home to a diverse selection of both table and premium wines. These wines are available under the brand names of Chateau Diana, Black Oak, Le Barron Ranch and 1221

Varietal %:

98% Merlot,
2% Syrah

Appellation:

100% California

Barrel Aged:

46% of Blend

Alcohol:

Winemakers Notes
This wine was harvested from two Central Valley locations near Santa Barbara, California. It was fermented in Stainless Steel tanks, then a large portion was transferred to barrels for aging. This is a very fruit–forward wine. In fact it is so fruity that it imparts sweetness that is not present. With a fine tannin structure, this wine is consistently smooth, all the way through to the finish. Overall, Black Oak Merlot is a very popular wine that “over-delivers” on taste.

Shiraz grapes are usually the last grapes off the vine; in fact, they are left on the vine to full ripeness which usually shrivels the grapes. Black Oak Shiraz is aged mostly in American oak barrels, with the final blend enhanced with 5% Mourvedre. This wine has well balanced acidity. The flavors are dark and round, with hints of black pepper in the nose, and a lively fruit finish.

100% Alexander Valley

Winemaker Notes:  A blockbuster Chardonnay on all fronts.  Fabulous grapes from the Alexander Valley floor, left to linger in the late summer sun.  Fermented entirely in Stainless Steel and then barrel aged for 9 months, where the wine underwent a partial secondary fermentation.  19% new French and American oak barrels.  A true Chardonnay-lovers delight, the wine is very well balanced, with a pleasing citrus acidity that nicely complements the buttery, toasted oak.  Creamy vanilla and crisp pear flavors intermingle on the pallate.  Long and luscious, yet finishes light and bright.  This will make a great summer wine all by itself and also quite versatile with many food pairings.

1221 Cabernet Cuvee

1221-Cabernet-CuveeWine-grapes
Alcohol:   14.41%
Titratable Acidity:   0.60 g/100mL
pH:   3.60
Residual Sugar:   0.04%
Malic Acid:   40 ppm

Winemakers Notes
The grapes for the 1221 Cabernet Cuvée were picked from small vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties. Fermented and aged separately, all seven lots were left to develop their own complex characteristics. The wines were aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for an average of 16 months. The final blend was created six months prior to bottling to ensure the full integration of textures and flavors. The resulting wine is fruit dominant on the nose, ripe and brambly. The taste profiles include bold, vibrant, fleshy Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics. The wine is rich in texture, layered and full bodied. The oak tones are subtle yet continue throughout.

Considerable time was spent on perfecting the 1221 final blend. In addition to uniting the grapes from these two counties, the wine is also a combination of the refined French style wines and the bright fruit forward wines of the new world. What would seem to be a contradiction works surprisingly well in the case of the 1221.

1221 Fleur de Lys

1221 FDL Wine-grapes
Alcohol:   14.43%
Titratable Acidity:   0.625 g/100mL
pH:   3.51
Residual Sugar:   0.23%
Malic Acid:   1225 ppm

Winemakers Notes
The grapes for the 1221 Fleur de Lys were picked mid-late September, from some of the most sought-after vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties. The Viognier portion of the blend came from two unique vineyards close to the banks of the Russian River. The fog wanders up the river from the ocean, keeping the grapes cool in the summer. This cooling effect delays the harvest giving the flavors and aromas time to fully mature. The result is some of the most intense aromatics a white wine can contain. The Chardonnay portion of the blend came from the Carneros region in Napa and the Napa Valley floor. This regional combination provides the sweet fruit and fantastic structure.

The taste profiles of the 1221 Fleur de Lys includes luscious ripe fruit flavors, a lively acidity and a harmonic finish that is intricate and refined. Full-bodied and rich in texture, Fleur de Lys will pair exceedingly well with a variety of dining selections. From a light luncheon to a swanky upscale dinner party, surprise your special guests with this unusual, refreshing offering that is 1221.
